Install and activate

Three minutes from purchase to your first cutout. Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon (M1 or later).

1. Download

Download EraseMyBG for Mac. The same link is in your license email, and it always gets the newest version.

2. Install

Open EraseMyBG.dmg from your Downloads folder.
Drag EraseMyBG onto the Applications folder in the window that opens.
Eject the disk image and open EraseMyBG from Applications or Launchpad.

If macOS says it can’t verify the app

The first time you open EraseMyBG, macOS may show “Apple could not verify EraseMyBG is free of malware.” This is a one-time check while our Apple notarization is pending. To open it:

Click Done on the message.
Open System Settings › Privacy & Security.
Scroll to the Security section and click Open Anyway next to EraseMyBG.
Confirm with your password or Touch ID. From then on it opens normally.

3. Activate

In EraseMyBG, click the gear icon in the top-right corner and choose Buy or Enter License Key.
Paste the key from your email and click Activate. Your Mac needs an internet connection this one time.

Before you activate, you can open photos and preview every cutout. Saving, copying, batch and automation unlock with the key.

Using it on another Mac

Your key works on 3 Macs at once. Install EraseMyBG on the new Mac and activate it with the same key. If all 3 seats are taken, open Settings › License on a Mac you no longer use and click Deactivate This Mac to free a seat.

Lost your key?

Search your inbox for “Your EraseMyBG license key”. Can’t find it? Contact us with the email you paid with and we’ll resend it.

Optional extras

Finder: right-click any image and choose Quick Actions › Erase Background (or Services). If it’s missing, enable it in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services.
Command line: Settings › Command Line › Install “erasemybg” Command.
Shortcuts: search for “Remove Background” in the Shortcuts app.
